US, DPRK agree on need to resume six-party talks

SEOUL: Stephen Bosworth, US special envoy to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), said Thursday that the US and the DPRK reached a common understanding on the need for resuming the six-party talks and implementing the joint statement of September 2005.
During meeting with DPRK' Vice Foreign Minister Kang Sok-ju and its top nuclear envoy, Kim Kye-gwan, the top US negotiator also said when and how to resume the six-party talks will be decided through further consultations with other relevant parties.
He did not, however, meet with DPRK top leader Kim Jong-il, as the US did not ask for it, Bosworth said.
Nor did he carry a special message from US President Barack Obama, he added.
