'Piracy harms children and nation's future'

China has launched a crackdown on piracy to regulate the market and protect intellectual property rights (IPR), said Jiang Jianguo, deputy director of General Administration of Press and Publication, during a ceremony to toast "Green Bookmark Action 2011" .

"Piracy will not only hurt the copyright owners and the children, but also the nation's innovation and future," Jiang said.

He called for the creation of a new attitude within society towards piracy?as pirated discs, books, and unauthorized newspapers and periodicals were destroyed in a nationwide crackdown.

"The whole society must?promote good faith as its core value... Besides, people must behave in accordance with law and?realize that piracy is not only harmful, but also a crime," said Jiang.

"Green Bookmark Action", which started in 2009, is a call to people to refuse piracy and respect innovation under the slogan "Refuse piracy, start with me" and to mark the World Intellectual Property Day.
