A student who once dropped out of Peking University before enrolling in Tsinghua University this year achieved Hubei province's highest score in the national college entrance exam.

His admission to Tsinghua University was confirmed by the province's Tsinghua admission team.

The student, surnamed of Chang, beat all other Hubei science students with a score of 712 from a possible 750.

Tsinghua University, one of the top universities in China, plans to enroll 72 Hubei province students, with the college's benchmark set at 683 for science students and 658 for art students, according to ThePaper.cn on Thursday.

Over 384,000 students in 2019 sat the entrance examination in Hubei province, provincial data has shown.

Chang in 2015 was admitted to Peking University, another top university in China, with a score of 690, which ranked eighth in Hubei province.

But he dropped out of university when he was a junior before returning to high school to resit the entrance exam this year.

Chang's story, as a one-time dropout to his admission to another top university, has brought significant attention.
