Song Liang, the former executive vice-governor of Gansu province, has been expelled from the Party and removed from office over serious violations of law and Party discipline, according to the country's top disciplinary watchdogs.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission said the investigation filed against Song found he had lost Party ideals and convictions, made use of his position and power for personal interest and to seek political advantage, and had been disloyal to the Party and opposed the investigation.

Song received money and accepted gifts of banquets and travel that could have affected the impartial execution of his duties. He also failed to confess his problems truthfully and didn't report personal matters as required, the statement said.

In addition, Song used his financial regulatory authority for personal profit. He took advantage of his position to help others in approving the establishment of small loan companies and obtaining financing loans. In return, he accepted a huge amount of money and property, it said.

The 57-year-old from Hebei province began work in 1985 and joined the Party in 1990. He became the vice governor and the Standing Committee of the CPC Gansu Provincial Committee in 2017, and was assigned as the executive vice-governor of Gansu in June 2018.

Song was placed under investigation in February 2021. His illegal gains have been confiscated and transferred to the procuratorial organ for examination and prosecution together with his case.
