Chinese political advisers on Friday discussed measures to promote the judicial protection of minors' rights and interests at a consultation session in Beijing.

The biweekly session was held by the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, China's top political advisory body.

Wang Yang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the session.

Wang noted that the protection of the rights and interests of minors is related to the healthy growth of youth and the happiness of hundreds of millions of families, as well as to social harmony and long-term stability of the country.

He called for upholding the principle of realizing the best benefit for minors and promoting the judicial protection of minors' rights and interests in the new era to a higher level.

Ten political advisers and invited representatives offered proposals at the session. More than 70 political advisers voiced their opinions via a mobile platform.

The political advisers urged more efforts to improve the management system for sealing the criminal records of minors and effectively protecting their legitimate rights and interests, such as the rights to privacy and education.

The construction of special forces for judicial protection of minors' rights and interests should be strengthened, they noted, adding that social organizations and social workers should be encouraged to widely participate in counseling, education and correction of minors involved in cases.

They also called for more efforts to improve education on the rule of law for minors, give play to the role of schools as the main channel for spreading legal knowledge to minors, and improve the quality of faculty and teaching materials.
