Reportedly, the Office of Tailored Access Operations of the National Security Agency of the United States has stolen more than 97 billion pieces of internet data and 124 billion pieces of telephone records from around the world over the 30 days previous to June 30.

The data constitutes the source of the intelligence for the United States as well as the other members of the Five Eyes-Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

The last time the mysterious office was in the spotlight was in 2013 when Edward Snowden, a former employee and subcontractor of the NSA, made public the PRISM global surveillance program of the agency that was mainly conducted by this office.

The office mainly hacks the networks and databases of other countries. Its targets include enterprises, government departments, military organs, institutes, universities and international organizations. And almost all types of devices in people's digital lives, ranging from servers, workstations, firewalls, routers, cellphones and telephone switches to industrial control systems are targeted by the office.

The latest report on its operation indicates the NSA has never ceased using such organs as the Office for its cyberspying, which poses a huge threat to many countries, enterprises and individuals around the world, including those of its allies.

The Office is only the tip of the iceberg of the US' intelligence departments. The other department that has been operating in a black box is the so-called Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency under the US Department of Defense that undertakes various kinds of experiments and research based on information it surreptitiously collects from around the world.

Under the name of protecting its own national security, the US' global eavesdropping and cyberattacks are all-pervasive. All countries must maintain high vigilance toward that.
