China's non-communist political parties have helped China handle major challenges and served the overall interests of the country, chairpersons of those parties said on Sunday in Beijing.

In performing their duties, parties have to offer suggestions to help the country make major strategic decisions and need to conduct in-depth research to understand the needs of local people and their economic development, Zheng Jianbang, chairperson of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, said at a news conference.

"Results of through investigation and research are further summarized and refined to form valuable materials as a reference for the CPC Central Committee and the State Council to make decisions," he said.

Zheng gave an example of how his party contributed to China's fight against poverty.

In assisting a once poverty-stricken area—Nayong county in Guizhou province— the party called for expert members to advise and propose methods to do so.

He Wei, chairperson of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, said experts from the party contributed their wisdom to help China fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

He noted the party submitted 20 reports related to the pandemic to the CPC Central Committee and State Council and put forward suggestions on epidemic prevention and control at 13 non-Party forums.

"It is fair to say we offered suggestions at key points and made relevant predictions at important stages, contributing our wisdom to help the CPC and government make scientific decisions," he said.

Wu Weihua, chairperson of the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society, said the society applied its strength to assist China in building a strong country in science and technology.

The society recommended more tax deductions for enterprises if they invest in basic and innovation research and saw positive results, he said.

In recent years, Jiusan Society has made use of its intellectual advantages, signing strategic cooperation agreements on scientific and technological innovation with provinces including Hainan, Anhui and Henan to assist local development in those areas, Wu added.
