A truck loaded with about 10 tons of vegetables such as tomatoes, pumpkins and corn headed towards Hong Kong from Zhuhai, Guangdong province, after smoothly crossing the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge on Wednesday.

The transportation marked the first successful vegetable supply to Hong Kong by Zhuhai Dongsheng Industrial Co through the bridge, which has become a new member of the "vegetable basket" project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

In January and February this year, 339 batches of vegetables totaling 1641.16 tons, with a value of 7.01 million yuan ($967,000), under the supervision of the Xiangzhou Customs in Zhuhai, were supplied to Hong Kong, according to the customs.

"The cross-border logistics advantage of the bridge is a key factor in our initiation of vegetable exports to Hong Kong," said Chen Canjie, general manager of Zhuhai Dongsheng Industrial Co.

With the 24-hour customs clearance at the bridge port, logistics efficiency has significantly improved, according to Chen.

"We are very optimistic about the market prospects of this business and we plan to continue increasing production capacity and distribution scale," said Chen.

The company's daily supply volume is expected to exceed 300 tons in the future, bringing more high-quality and safe vegetables to the Hong Kong market, according to Chen.
