Jin Xiangjun, former governor of Shanxi province, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and dismissed from public office after an investigation found he committed serious violations, according to a decision made by China's top anti-corruption watchdogs.

The decision was released online by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision on Friday.

Jin was found to have been careless in implementing the central leadership's plans and policies, in addition to accepting banquets and travel arrangements that could potentially affect the impartial execution of his official duties, the commissions said.

Jin also received services from private business owners without payment and failed to truthfully report his problems during the investigation, the commissions noted.

Furthermore, the authorities found that he illegally held shares in non-listed companies and engaged in exchanges involving power, money and sex, as well as used his positions to accept huge amounts of assets in return for seeking favors for others in business operations and project contracting.

The commissions pointed out that Jin had seriously violated the Party's disciplines and was suspected of duty-related crimes, leading to the decision to expel him from the Party, remove him from public office, and confiscate his illicit gains.

His case will be referred to prosecutors for further review and prosecution, they added.

Jin, 61, a native of Hunan province, joined the Party in November 1984 and started his career in July 1990, holding positions in Sichuan and Hainan provinces and Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

In early 2018, he moved to Tianjin, where he served as the deputy mayor. He was appointed the governor of Shanxi in January 2023 after moving to the province at the end of 2022.
