The number of suspects apprehended in Beijing's Shunyi district for crimes related to public welfare increased by 15 percent in 2025 compared to the previous year, significantly enhancing people's sense of well-being and security, an official from the local public security authority said on Friday.

Liang Xi, head of the authority's criminal investigation, told a news conference that over the past year, police officers across the district formed specialized teams to combat offenses against people's properties and focused more on cracking down on crimes such as home burglaries and vehicle-related thefts, successfully dismantling a total of nine gangs.

He revealed that in 2025, the police recovered over 4 million yuan ($575,416) in economic losses for the public.

"In addition, we conducted more than 200 safety awareness activities in communities, schools, and businesses, including anti-fraud, anti-drug, and theft prevention, to enhance public awareness of the rule of law," he added.

Zhang Guoli, deputy head of the public security authority, noted that efforts were also intensified in helping the construction of the international airport city port in the area, creating a new hub for the capital's opening up to the world.

For example, based on the types of businesses, the authority divided the airport economic zone into an aviation hub core area, a logistics and warehousing cluster area, and a business service extension area.

"We established 20 police-enterprise service stations and assigned police officers to regularly provide risk assessment services to ensure safety," he said.

"We also took strict legal action against various illegal activities that infringe upon the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises," he said, adding that he and his colleagues solved 64 cases of economic crimes involving businesses and detained 98 suspects last year.

He added that these efforts helped recover economic losses of over 46 million yuan for the enterprises, thereby safeguarding their legitimate rights and fostering a continuously improving market environment.
