Distance and duty small obstacles on road to true love
New Year's 5,000-km trip underscores wife's selfless support for soldier husband
After more than 60 hours of arduous travel, Huang finally arrived at the radar station and saw Meng's familiar figure. With his commander's permission, Meng took her to a radar site over 5,000 meters above sea level. There, amidst the endless expanse of snow-capped mountains, Huang truly understood the challenges her husband and his comrades face. Gasping for breath in the thin air, she listened as Meng recounted stories of the soldiers' perseverance and dedication.
During the station's New Year celebration, Meng had a surprise for Huang. He presented her with a heart-shaped stone from the Karakoram Mountains, symbolizing their unyielding love. Amid rousing cheers, the radar station held a simple yet romantic military wedding for the couple, following the traditions of their hometown. But duty knows no holidays.
