China's successful poverty alleviation campaign, which lifted millions out of extreme poverty, has been widely praised internationally, Liu Jieyi, spokesman for the fourth session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said at a news conference in Beijing on Tuesday.

"The international community has highly praised China for making the greatest contribution to global poverty reduction and setting an inspiring example," Liu said ahead of the advisory body's annual session.

Over the past five years, infrastructure in formerly impoverished areas has improved significantly, he said. All counties have been connected by expressways and all villages by roads, while network coverage has been extended nationwide. China has prevented a large-scale return to poverty and made notable progress in comprehensive rural vitalization, Liu said.

"China's achievements in poverty alleviation have stood the test of practice and history, powerfully proving to the world that poverty is not insurmountable," he added.

China has also taken part in international poverty reduction cooperation and provided assistance to developing countries, Liu said. The country has signed cooperation documents with more than 150 countries and dozens of international organizations to jointly build the Belt and Road Initiative.

A number of major projects have been carried out under the initiative, promoting local economic development and creating jobs, he said. More than 30 Luban Workshops have been established in countries across Asia, Africa and Europe to train technical and skilled workers needed for local economic and social development.

China has also promoted Juncao technology, a multi-functional agricultural resource initially developed for mushroom cultivation, in more than 100 countries, helping people alleviate poverty, Liu said. The country has invited personnel from some developing countries to visit China to learn about rural construction and exchange practices in rural governance and industrial development, he added.
