One-year-old boy dies during infusion treatment in Hubei
A one-year-old boy died during infusion treatment at a hospital in Enshi, Hubei province, with medical records and surveillance footage sealed as part of an ongoing investigation.
The health commission of Enshi Tujia and Miao autonomous prefecture has launched an investigation, and a qualified judicial appraisal institution has been commissioned to determine the cause of death, a statement released on Wednesday said.
According to the statement, the boy, surnamed Du, had previously been hospitalized at another hospital from March 9 to 19 for pneumonia with multiple infections and systemic inflammatory response syndrome.
On March 25, he was admitted to the Jinlong branch of the Central Hospital of Enshi after experiencing a cough and intermittent fever for 20 days. He was initially diagnosed with bronchopneumonia, and the cause of the fever remained unclear, it added.
It said that during infusion treatment on the day of admission, the child suddenly developed convulsions, followed by a drop in heart rate and breathing. Despite emergency treatment, he later died.
