Ma Xingrui, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, is being investigated for suspected severe violations of Party disciplines and national laws, China's top anti-corruption watchdogs announced on Friday.

The announcement was disclosed online by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision. No further details were released.

Ma, 66, also deputy head of the Leading Group for Rural Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, used to be an aerospace engineer, and then held a number of key positions in this sector.

The native of Shandong province joined the Party in January 1988 and started his career as a teacher at the Harbin Institute of Technology in Heilongjiang province in March that year.

From 1996 to 2012, he held several senior positions at the China Academy of Space Technology and the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.

In 2013, he was appointed to a few other important positions, including vice-minister of industry and information technology, head of the China National Space Administration, director of the China Atomic Energy Authority, and head of the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense.

In late 2013, he began his work in Guangdong province, and in 2017, he became the provincial governor.

From 2021 to 2025, he served as Party secretary of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.
