The Seventh Son

, which stars five-time Oscar nominee Julianne Moore as a villainous witch, opened in Chinese theaters on Friday.

The film, an adaptation of British best-selling novelist Joseph Delaney's The Last Apprentice, is available on both Imax and DMAX screens.

Moore, who was named best dramatic actress for her role in Still Alice at the 72nd Golden Globe Awards, plays the film's most evil sorceress, Mother Malkin.

The 54-year-old British-American actress reveals that she has never starred in a fantasy movie and this is her first time playing a witch.

She says it was exciting to work with Jeff Bridges, who plays a demon-slaying master and is also the former lover of Malkin.

The film will be released in North American theaters on Feb 6, around 20 days later than Chinese mainland. Moviegoers have been buzzing with anticipation about the film online.

Ben Barnes, who plays the handsome apprentice of the master, has recorded a special greeting trailer for Chinese audiences, which shows Hollywood's increasing interest in China's fast-expanding market.
