Seven staff members were assigned to the administrative committee of Kunming National Hi-Tech Industries Development Zone from Kunming's food and drug administration to form a food and drug administration for the hi-tech zone.

The food and drug administration of Kunming Hi-Tech Zone is subordinate to the administrative committee of the zone. There are 23 staff members, including 7 from the municipal food and drug administration.

The main responsibilities of the administration are to supervise the safety and effectiveness of the food, drug, medical apparatus, and cosmetics produced or circulating in the zone. Meanwhile, it functions as the food safety commission, whose responsibilities are as follows:

First, it will perform the functions of law enforcement in the zone and deals with complaints concerning food and drugs. Second, it will set up several subdistrict offices in the zone; and third, it will appoint assistant supervisors in subdistrict offices to assist law enforcement and popularize food and drug safety knowledge.
