Sometimes parents force their children to get married if they attain the marriageable age. According to our customs, it is the responsibility of the parents to find life partners for their children. So, if the kids don't get married after certain age, it reflects badly on parents and others think that the parents are not exercising their responsibilities properly. The compulsion is more if it is a girl.
